Wigan boss Owen Coyle was delighted to see his side hit the ground running as they opened their pre-season tour of the United States with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew.
Second-half goals from James McCarthy and Marc-Antoine Fortune were enough to get the Coyle era off to winning start as they held on after Ethan Finley got the hosts back into it.
In the heat of the Mid-West, Coyle was able to field six of his seven new signings with only Thomas Rogne missing out through injury.
"The result was not the priority but it is still very nice to be able to come away with a win after just 10 days of pre-season work," the boss told Wigan's official site.
"The players did exactly as they were instructed and showed professionalism, but also a real touch of quality for the goals. Now we need to build on that as we move towards August 3."
Their tour continues with a clash against Dayton Dutch Lions on Tuesday.
