Sky Sports understands Barnsley are lining up a move for Blackpool defender Kirk Broadfoot.

Broadfoot is out of contract at Bloomfield Road and Seasiders manager Paul Ince was keen to tie him down to a new deal.

However, Broadfoot has not agreed a new deal and the news has alerted a host of Championship clubs to his availability on a free transfer.

Ipswich were thought to be leading the chase for the Scotland international, but now Barnsley have enterted the race for the versatile defender.

Tykes boss David Flitcroft is an admirer of the former Rangers man and is keen to bring him to Oakwell.

Barnsley are ready to offer the 28-year-old a two-year deal to make the move to South Yorkshire.
