Millwall defender Adam Smith has had the red card he received against Barnsley on Saturday overturned.

The right-back, who is on loan from Spurs, was shown a straight red card for his 54th-minute challenge on David Perkins during Barnsley's 2-1 victory.

But Millwall boss Kenny Jackett said after the game that "the sending off was a harsh one, which we will be appealing".

And Barnsley manager Keith Hill added: "I don't think it was a sending-off. At best it was a yellow card. He's an excellent player and was fully committed in the challenge.

"As an ex-defender, I like to see tackles, and it was a well-timed tackle. Maybe it was a yellow card because both feet left the field of play, but there was only a focus on the ball.

"I don't think the referee quite saw the fact that it was a well-timed challenge."

The red card was overturned at an FA disciplinary hearing on Thursday, meaning Smith will not have to serve a three-match ban and will be available for Saturday's clash with leaders Cardiff.
