Sky Sports understands former Watford boss Sean Dyche is in pole position for the vacant manager's job at Burnley.
As revealed by Sky Sports earlier this week, Dyche was on the club's shortlist alongside Steven Pressley and Steve Davis to take over at Turf Moor.
Burnley have been searching for a new manager since Eddie Howe left the club to return to Bournemouth earlier this month.
Former Hornets boss Dyche has been out of work since leaving Vicarage Road in July following his controversial sacking by the club's new owners the Pozzo family.
The 41-year-old guided Watford to 11th spot in the Championship on a shoestring budget last season and he is thought to have impressed the Burnley board during his interviews with the club.
Crystal Palace are also thought to be interested in Dyche, but Burnley are hoping to name the former Chesterfield defender as their new boss in the next few days.
