Defender hoping to earn contract at Town; Pezzoni departs

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Abdoulaye Meite has joined Ipswich Town on trail, while German defender Kevin Pezzoni has left after an unsuccessful attempt to earn a contract.

Meite has joined Town on a week's trial and will hope to impress manager Paul Jewell.

Pezzoni was with Ipswich last week, but the Tractor Boys have elected not to follow up their initial interest.

"Abdoulaye has come in and he will be training with us this week," Jewell said on Town's official website.

"He came in on Monday and he'll be in again tomorrow. We're looking at him for a week and we will see where things go.

"Kevin was with us last week and he did OK. I spoke with his father and his agent but the money that they were looking for was out of our level.

"He's also been playing as a defensive midfield player for the last four seasons or so and really we are looking for an out-and-out typical 'English' centre-half."
