Veteran goalkeeper Ian Bennett has signed a new two-year contract with Huddersfield Town.

The former Birmingham City and Sheffield United keeper has established himself as a firm favourite at the Galpharm Stadium and his new deal will see him stay on until the age of 42. He missed out on the League One play-off final win over Sheffield United because of injury and will compete with Alex Smithies for playing time in the Championship. Boss Simon Grayson said: "It's brilliant news. 'Benno' showed last season what a fantastic goalkeeper he is and he has such influence both on the pitch and around the dressing room with the younger goalkeepers and the rest of the squad. "His experience is invaluable and he still has the hunger and desire to be in the team next season. "We certainly like what we saw of Ian last season, both professionally and in terms of personality, so it's great that a deal has been done. "Everybody was disappointed for him when he missed the Final through injury, but instead 'Benno' was absolutely delighted for Alex. "The goalkeeping union here work so closely together and really push each other, so I'm delighted to have him around."
