Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton hopes that Stephen Carr will be available to play for the club again this season.
The defender is currently sidelined as he looks to recover from a minor knee operation after suffering a heavy tackle against Chelsea in the FA Cup in February.
The initial prognosis was for a return after three weeks, but the Blues manager has revealed that it could be an injury that sidelines the 35-year-old for the rest of the campaign.
Birmingham are aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League and are sixth in the table with eight games remaining.
Carr has been an important part of the squad, having played 23 times in the current campaign, helping the club concede just 41 times in 38 games.
Availability
He is out of contract in the summer, but Hughton remains hopeful that he will play again before the season draws to a close.
The Blues boss said: "I know there have been a few questions regarding his availability but he had a very small knee operation about three weeks ago.
"He has had a little bit of debris taken out so it's a small operation that has a fairly good recovery time.
"He's making good progress from it, and if we can get him back at any stage this season it will be a real bonus. It could be one that keeps him out for the season but we look at the positives.
"He's a very fit lad and I've no doubts that if there was any period that we could have got him back for that he would have got himself back up to a good standard."
