Tykes' back-up goalkeeper will miss remainder of the season

Barnsley goalkeeper David Preece will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a wrist injury at the weekend. The former Darlington and Aberdeen shot-stopper sustained the problem during the warm-up for Saturday's defeat at Southampton. Preece has acted as understudy to Luke Steele this season, with his only appearance coming in the home defeat against the Saints back in August. The 35-year-old, who has made just six league starts for the Tykes following his arrival from Odense in July 2009, will not recover in time to play any part in the final 10 fixtures of this term. Manager Keith Hill is set to turn to Academy goalkeeper Lukas Lidakevicius to fill the spot on the bench for Saturday's home date with Reading in Preece's absence. Hill told the club's official website: "He fractured his hand in the warm-up at Southampton and is out for the season."
