Reds welcome defensive duo

Cotterill pleased with Wootton and Higginbotham deals

Steve Cotterill believes deadline day arrivals Scott Wootton and Danny Higginbotham will significantly aid Nottingham Forest's survival bid. The Reds slipped to another demoralising defeat on Tuesday night, with a 2-0 reversal against Burnley leaving them second from bottom in the Championship table and five points adrift of safety. There was, however, positive news on the transfer front, with Wootton and Higginbotham drafted in on loan from Manchester United and Stoke City respectively. Forest have been short on defensive options all season, and the recent departure of Wes Morgan to East Midlands rivals Leicester City has left them further depleted in an important area of the field. Cotterill has attempted to plug those holes with two short-term deals, and he is happy with the calibre of player he has been able to add to the City Ground ranks.

Experienced

"Scott is a good footballer, he's composed," the Reds boss told the club's official website. "He's a big lad and played very well against us here for Peterborough - he actually played in midfield that day - and he will bring a bit of youthful exuberance to us. "It wasn't too costly to bring him in and we're bringing in an experienced player in Danny Higginbotham. "He will bring good leadership skills to the dressing room and not just the back four. "He's a good type and when you are up against it you need good types."
