Brett Ormerod believes a salary cap should be introduced in football to limit the level of financial risk in the game.

Seasiders veteran fear for long-term future of the game

Blackpool striker Brett Ormerod believes a salary cap should be introduced in football to limit the level of financial risk in the game. A whopping £485million was spent by Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window. Ormerod was amazed by some of the sums being spent and he still fears for the long-term future of the game. The veteran striker is flabbergasted by what the top earners are being paid in the modern game, although he cannot see that changing anytime soon.

Cap

"I remember a couple of years ago, the experts were saying football was about to collapse because it couldn't sustain itself, but if anything it is going the other way," he told the Blackpool Gazette. "Personally, I think it might have been better being capped and sorted out a long time ago. It just seems to have got worse. "Some of the wages being bandied about are astronomical. I suppose it's just the way football is."
