Midfielder signs two-year contract with Championship club

Ipswich Town have signed Jimmy Bullard on a free transfer and have handed him a two-year contract. The midfielder was released by Hull City last week and his impressive performances for Ipswich on loan in the second half of the 2011/12 campaign have now earned him a move to the Championship club. Town manager Paul Jewell, who had been trying to sign the 32-year-old all summer, is understandably delighted to have recruited the former West Ham United and Wigan Athletic player. "We had been chipping away at Jimmy and Hull all summer to try and sort something out but Hull were adamant that we wouldn't be going out on loan again unless someone paid his wages," he told Ipswich's official website. "He had a few clubs to talk to but Jimmy made it clear that if we could sort out a deal then coming here would be his preference. "It's a great feeling to know that even though he had the opportunity to go to a Premier League team he still wanted the opportunity to come here. "Hopefully he can do what he did for us last year and beyond." Jewell's side have made a disappointing start to the new Championship season and are just a point above the relegation zone. Ipswich lost 7-1 to Peterborough United away from home last weekend. Bullard's agent Simon Dent said: "Jimmy loved his time at Ipswich and it's a great move for him. "The club have huge aspirations, great supporters and a passionate owner, all of which appeal to Jimmy."
