Bolton manager Owen Coyle was full of praise for debutant Tuncay Sanli after he scored one and set up the winner as Wanderers came from behind to beat Macclesfield 2-1 in the second round of the Carling Cup.
The visitors took the lead through Emile Sinclair but Wanderers came on strong in the second half with Tuncay scoring one and setting up Martin Petrov for the winner 17 minutes from time.
"Tuncay put himself in great positions and we know the ability he has," said Coyle.
"He hasn't trained with us for 10 days so for him to come in and show the desire and hunger from the start is a credit.
"He produced a terrific finish and he was desperate to get another. He will get better as he gets fitter."
And Coyle, who made eight changes, was pleased to have secured their passage into the third round having gone behind early on.
"These cup ties are notoriously tricky because teams make a lot of changes and when you make eight there is always a chance there isn't that cohesion or fluency that you want," he said.
"We started the game really well and should have gone in front but then conceded a soft goal and I think everyone could see the mistakes that were made.
'Underdog'
"Macclesfield were always a threat - I've been there on many occasions as the underdog both as a player and manager and it is a cup final for them.
"But we scored two very good goals and we could have scored six or seven in the second half."
Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson was pleased with his side's performance, particularly in the first half, but admitted his side could not keep up with the quality at Coyle's disposal.
"It wasn't a disappointing night. We have come to a Premier League club and played against international players and it is quite nice actually," he said.
"For 45 minutes we were as good as anyone could have hoped for. We out-passed them, out-worked them and we got a good goal.
"We had chances to get a couple more and they were left scratching their heads. We had them rattled, no two ways about it. But I'm taking nothing away from them and the players have enjoyed it.
"They acquitted themselves very well. If we had got a second goal it could have been interesting.
"To come here and play like that is a credit to the club and League Two as a whole."
