Former England international given chance to revive his career

Leicester have handed Michael Ball a 12-month deal after he impressed during pre-season. The 31-year-old will become Sven Goran Eriksson's 11th summer signing as the Swede continues to splash the cash at the Walkers Stadium. Ball has been without a club since 2009 when he was released by Manchester City, where he spent time under Eriksson. A knee injury kept the defender out for nine months during his tenure at Eastlands, and despite training with other clubs since then, he has failed to win a contract.

Faith

But the Foxes have now shown faith in him by offering a 12-month deal with the option of a further year following his displays in training. "Michael is another very experienced player that will add further depth to our squad," Eriksson told the club's official website. "He is a good influence both on and off the pitch and has a positive effect in the dressing room. "He has come back from a long spell out injured and has a good opportunity to recapture his previous form. If he can do that, he will be a bargain for us."
