Birmingham have signed West Brom youngster Chris Wood on a month's youth loan to solve their striker crisis.
The Blues are without Cameron Jerome, Marlon King and Nikola Zigic who will all miss the first game of the season against Derby on Saturday.
Wood, 19, could also make his European bow during his 28-day stint at St Andrews against Portuguese side Nacional.
Wood impressed while on loan at Brighton last season and on his return to The Hawthorns has caught the eye of Roy Hodgson.
But the club believe this is a good opportunity for him to go out and further his education.
"After his successful loan spell at Brighton, this has been Roy's first chance to work with Chris and take a proper look at him," Baggies sport and technical director Dan Ashworth told the club's official website.
"He's done really well in training but the opportunity to play both league and potentially European matches with Birmingham, who are right on our doorstep, during a 28-day loan period was perfect for all parties.
"Chris Hughton is a good coach so he will be in really good hands."
