Burnley confirm signing of former Bournemouth keeper

Eddie Howe has expressed his delight at landing Jon Stewart after Burnley confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper. Skysports.com revealed on Tuesday that Stewart had earned a one-year deal at Turf Moor and the news has now been officially announced by the Clarets. The former Bournemouth shot-stopper, 22, featured in three pre-season games as a substitute at Bury, Torquay and Oldham, and impressed sufficiently to be offered the contract. Howe said: "We knew Jon from our time at Bournemouth and he is a very talented young lad. "He is only 22, in goalkeeping terms he has a lot of time left in him and we feel he is a goalkeeper of huge potential." Stewart started his career with Swindon before joining Weymouth in 2006 and then heading to Bournemouth in 2010 following a brief spell training with Portsmouth. He made four appearances for the Cherries before becoming a free agent after leaving the South Coast club in April.
