Experienced midfielder snubs Ipswich in favour of Forest

Former Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Hull City midfielder George Boateng has signed a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest. The hardworking midfielder arrived in England in December 1997 when he completed a £250,000 move to a Coventry before joining Midlands rivals Aston Villa for £4.5million in July 1999. A disagreement with then manager Graham Taylor proved to be the catalyst for a £5million move to Middlesbrough in August 2002, ahead of a £1million switch to Hull City. Upon leaving the KC Stadium in 2010, Boateng took in spells training with West Brom and Celtic but ended up heading to Greece. He spent the 2010/11 campaign with Skoda Xhanthi, but is now on his way back to England. The 35-year-old, who has worked with new Forest boss Steve McClaren before during his days at Middlesbrough, has committed himself to a 12-month deal. He had also been in talks with the Reds' Championship rivals Ipswich, but has opted to complete a switch to the City Ground. Meanwhile, Forest have confirmed that former Holland international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is to become the club's new first-team coach. The ex-Chelsea frontman joined the Reds on their recent trip to Portugal and offered advice to McClaren's attacking unit.
