Slocombe to get new deal

Scunthorpe reserve keeper earns contract extension offer

Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill will offer goalkeeper Sam Slocombe a new contract as the club prepare for life in League One.

Knill: Busy summer ahead

First-choice stopper Joe Murphy is set to leave the Iron on a free transfer in June, paving the way for Slocombe to have a future at the club.

The Scunthorpe-born 22-year-old made two appearances from the bench this season, the latter of which came in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.

"It was good for Sam to get on," said Knill, whose side finished bottom of the Championship table.

"He's somebody who we like and we'll be offering him a new contract," he confirmed.

"He is really enthusiastic, athletic and has a desire to be better. He has a hunger in him and we're going to give that a chance."
