Midfielder wants to help club win an immediate return to Championship

Barry Nicholson believes he owes it to Preston North End to stay at Deepdale following the club's relegation. The experienced midfielder is out of contract in the summer and manager Phil Brown revealed several weeks ago that talks had started regarding an extension. Nicholson revealed he would be happy to agree a new deal, but Preston have subsequently been relegated into League One. However, Nicholson has no plans to abandon ship and wants to repay the fans by helping the Lilywhites to win an immediate return to the Championship. "I have made it clear that I definitely want to be here next season and I owe it to the club to stay here and help them," said Nicholson. "Winning the division has to be the target because we feel we were good enough to stay in the Championship."
