Smith leaves Norwich for Aberdeen on loan

Aberdeen have signed versatile Steven Smith from Norwich City on loan until the end of the season. The 25-year-old, who can play at left-back or in midfield, has moved back north of the border after failing to settle at Carrow Road following his summer move from Rangers. He spent eight years at Ibrox, making 74 appearances, before his free transfer move to the Canaries. He has since been restricted to seven outings for the Championship outfit, with manager Paul Lambert recently revealing the player wanted to return to Scotland. Smith has got his wish and will go straight into the squad for the SPL game against Celtic at Pittodrie on Tuesday. He is the fifth arrival at the club since Craig Brown's appointment last month, joining David McNamee, Rob Milsom, Nick Blackman and Myles Anderson. Meanwhile, the Dons have announced defender Jerel Ifil and striker Andrius Velicka have left the club.
