Rams raid County for midfielder

Derby County manager Nigel Clough has signed highly-rated midfielder Ben Davies from Notts County for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old joins the Championship club on a two-and-a-half-year deal. He completed a medical and agreed personal terms at Derby's Moor Farm training ground on Thursday and is in contention to make his debut at Pride Park against East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Davies has been a target for Clough for some time, and he believes the player is capable of making the step up from League One. "We're delighted that we've been able to agree a deal with Notts County and bring Ben to Derby," he told the club's official website. "His set-pieces are lethal and attract a lot of attention and quite rightly so, but he has plenty more to his game. "He is an energetic midfielder, he can make things happen and we're confident he can make the step up to the Championship having watched him on several occasions in the last year."
