Palace boss defends Holland legend's brief spell

George Burley has no regrets over his decision to bring Edgar Davids to Crystal Palace for a brief and unsuccessful stint. The former Holland international came out of retirement in August to join the Selhurst Park club only to call time on his stay earlier this week. The 37-year-old made just seven appearances during his time with the Eagles and was unable to prevent them becoming embroiled in the relegation battle. But Burley had nothing but praise for the legendary former Ajax and Tottenham midfielder's time with the South London outfit.

Great experience

"It was a privilege to work with him, everybody at the club enjoyed it, he's been a world-class player and we wish him well," said Burley. "He'd been out the game for two years, he's 37 and he also missed a month with a family bereavement. "But it was a great experience for everyone at the club and if you asked me to do it again I would. "He was on pay as you play, so he didn't cost the club anything and he wanted to come. So I didn't see anything negative at all."
