Eagles reward Hills and Scannell with one-year extensions

Crystal Palace have handed one-year extensions to youngsters Lee Hills and Sean Scannell. The Championship outfit have rewarded the Croydon-born pair with new deals despite neither making a first-team appearance so far this season due to injury. "Both players have suffered cruel luck with injury and will be looking to put this frustrating time behind them," manager George Burley told the club's official website.

Great professionals

"They are both great professionals and these home-grown players fully deserve this extension to their current contracts with the club." Hills, 20, has racked up 47 appearances for Palace since making his debut in October 2007. The left-back, who has represented England at Under 18 and Under 19 level, is still on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments at derby in April. Scannell, 21, has also been out with a knee injury suffered in pre-season but is well on the way to recovery after it was initially feared he would be out for five months. The forward has made 81 appearances since making his debut in December 2007 and has represented the Republic of Ireland at every level from Under 17s to B team.
