O'Driscoll: Delighted to hang on

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll spoke of his delight at seeing his side win 3-1 against Norwich on Tuesday.

Midfielder James Coppinger grabbed a hat-trick for the home side at the Keepmoat Stadium to give Rovers all three points and climb above the Canaries into fourth place.

Coppinger's third four minutes from time sealed victory after Russell Martin made it 2-1 to set nerves jangling in the second half.

And O'Driscoll, despite happy to come away with the success, was disappointed his side let their opponents back into the game and that they must learn from it.

"It was enjoyable for us apart from a spell of about 20 minutes in the second half when we made bad decision after bad decision," he said.

"When you are 2-0 up in this league, Championship sides kill you off but we don't seem to be able to do that.

"We let them back into the game but, having said that, I think they are a good team and they'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

"Tactically we got it right and made one or two changes to combat the way they play.

"But people don't give anything away in this division and we still need to improve."

O'Driscoll also praised Coppinger's attitude, stating that he had become a much more complete player from when he first joined the club.

"He's been terrific and he deserved that," O'Driscoll added.

"When he first came he wanted to walk the ball into the net but the first goal was a super strike from way outside the area."

Positives

Norwich boss Paul Lambert was disappointed to lose, but admitted that he could have few complaints about the final score.

Lambert's side move down to eighth place after a good start to life back in the Championship, but he felt that there were positives to take.

"They are a good side and it's a hard place to come. They scored a wonder goal at the start and you have to hold your hands up because that was a terrific strike," he said.

"But I always thought we were in the game even when the second goal for them went in.

"We played well in the second half and I can't fault my players or ask any more from them in terms of effort.

"When we scored and got back into it I thought we might go on and get a second goal but we had one effort cleared off the line and didn't have the luck we needed.

"The third goal was a deflection which sometimes happens and there was no coming back from that really, but there were still a lot of positives for us to take out of the game."
