Scunthorpe have finalised the signing of ex-West Ham defender Trent McClenahan on a short-term deal.

Adkins confident defender has something to offer

Scunthorpe United have finalised the signing of former West Ham defender Trent McClenahan on a short-term contract. McClenahan has earned a deal until January at Glanford Park after impressing Iron boss Nigel Adkins in training over the past week. The Australian left Hamilton Academical over the summer and he was on the bench for Scunthorpe's Carling Cup tie with Oldham on Tuesday night. Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I think he has something, I really do. He is hungry and will fit into the culture we have here at Glanford Park. "We are getting an experienced player who spent five years at West Ham and has spent the last couple of years playing Scottish Premier League football with Hamilton. "He was offered a new two-year deal to stay up there, but wanted to try his luck down here. "We were asked to have a look at him - and I like what I have seen. "We have tried to create a 'win-win' situation by offering Trent a deal until January to give him a chance to try and prove himself."
