Dutch midfielder signs two-year contract at Xanthi

Veteran midfielder George Boateng has opted for a move to Greece by signing a two-year contract at Skoda Xanthi. Boateng had been available on a free transfer since his contract at Hull City expired and he was linked with several clubs. The former Holland international had expressed an interest in joining Celtic and he also recently spent a brief spell training with West Brom. However, the 34-year-old has settled on a move to Greek outfit Xanthi to bring an end to over 12 years in English football. Boateng initially joined Coventry City from Feyenoord in late 1997 before going on to enjoy stints with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and, most recently, Hull.
