Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

McCarthy has made 51 appearances since joining the side from Charlton in the summer of 2008, although a niggling shoulder problem limited his opportunities last term.

Indeed, the 27-year-old McCarthy made 20 league appearances for Palace during the 2009/10 season.

McCarthy, who was given the captain's armband for the pre-season friendly against Crawley on Tuesday, will be hoping to be a key figure in George Burley's starting XI in the 2010/11 campaign.
