Forest manager Billy Davies admits that it is 'important' for 25-year-old left-back to gain some game time in a hope that he will regain his sharpness and come back to the club fully rehabilitated.

The former Walsall player suffered a serious knee injury against Doncaster back in 2008 and despite being out for 18 months, Bennett has been back in full training at the Championship side since the end of last season.

Davies told the Nottingham Post: "It is important for Julian to go out and gain some match fitness.

"Having had so long on the sidelines, he will still need to regain his sharpness. He should be fully fit again by the time the new season starts.

"He will have had a pre-season under his belt and he should be ready."

Davies added: "But the best thing for him will be to go out on loan, probably until January at least, to get himself back to the right level. We will look to get him the right move to allow him to do that."
