Slovenia seem resigned to the fact that they only have second place to play for in Group C, with England the clear favourites to finish first.
Slovenia open their World Cup campaign against Algeria on Sunday, a day after England face USA.
Currently ranked 25th in the world, Matjaz Kek's side are five places better off than their African opponents but are some way behind USA who are ranked 14th.
England face Slovenia in their third and final group game on 23rd June and 31-year-old defender Matej Mavric is hoping his side have six points by then.
"We are optimistic yes," he said.
"But England are a very strong team. We want to be second. We will leave the first position for England."
However, assistant coach Milan Miklavic has warned of the threat of the USA, saying: "Both England and the USA are very strong teams. But England are stronger."
Despite some already eyeing second place, attacking midfielder Nejc Pecnik warns that the team cannot take Algeria for granted in their opening game.
"They are a good side," he said. "Our coach and his assistant have had a good look at them and they play organised football. We will respect them."
