Swansea City teenager Ashley Richards has been rewarded for his progress over the past season with a new two-year contract.

Richards made his debut for the Swans back in August and he featured a total of 15 times for Paulo Sousa's side this term.

He has been filling in at right-back and Swans chairman Huw Jenkins is happy to have secured the future of the 19-year-old.

"We have agreed a deal with Jazz and his agent," Jenkins told the club's official website. "As a club we are delighted to secure such an exciting new talent.

"He has come through the ranks with us and I am sure he has a bright future ahead of him with Swansea."

Learning curve

Richards added: "I was obviously pleased with the way things turned out last season.

"It was nice to make my league debut so early in the season against Middlesbrough. And I've got to be pleased with making 15 first-team appearances as a first-year pro.

"It was a steep learning curve at times, especially playing at full-back, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"I'm a Swansea boy and I'm proud to finally agree the new contract. I'm still young, but I'm determined to keep developing and pushing for a regular place in the first team next season.''
