Derby County forward Steven Davies is to undergo an ankle operation and will sit out the final two matches of the season.

Davies has endured an injury-hit campaign for the Rams and has already spent time on the sidelines with an ankle problem in addition to a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old has now been booked in for surgery and it will be up to six weeks before he is ready to resume training.

"Steven is having an ankle operation today which naturally rules him out for the rest of the season," Rams boss Nigel Clough told the club's official website.

"It is a four to six weeks job for him so that will take him to the start of June.

"He will be back training on June 1, four weeks before everybody else so we have him in good condition for the start of pre-season training."

Davies, who missed the end of last season with a foot injury, has been restricted to just seven starts in the Championship for Derby this term.
