Midfielder given the all-clear after taking blow to the head

George Boateng has been released from hospital after sustaining a sickening head injury against Stoke City on Saturday. The Hull City midfielder was carried off on a stretcher after being caught in the face by the boot of Potters forward Tuncay Sanli as he attempted an ambitious overhead kick. He was rushed straight to hospital and remained under medical surveillance overnight amid fears he had fractured his jaw. Subsequent scans have given him the all clear, though, and he has now returned home. The Dutchman was knocked unconscious in the incident, with his injury forcing Hull to see out the final eight minutes of a 2-0 defeat at the Britannia Stadium with 10 men as Iain Dowie had already made three substitutions.

Monitored

The Tigers initially feared that they would be without the 34-year-old for the foreseeable future, dealing a major blow to their Premier League survival bid. However, they have welcomed the news that the injury is not regarded as serious and are looking forward to welcoming Boateng back into the fold in the near future. A statement released on the club's official website read: "Due to the nature of the injury, the midfielder will continue to be monitored daily and will be seen by specialists again in the next 48 hours. "Boateng is now back at home with his family."
