Rotherham United have confirmed the club were unable to finalise a move for Derby County midfielder Arnaud Mendy before the loan deadline.
Mendy had been linked with a switch to the League Two promotion hopefuls last week and Millers boss Ronnie Moore was interested in a deal.
However, the paperwork was not finalised before last Thursday's 5pm deadline and Mendy must remain at Derby for the rest of the season.
A Rotherham statement read: "Contrary to recent media speculation surrounding the proposed loan signing of Derby County midfielder Arnaud Mendy, this signing was not concluded.
"Whilst Arnaud was a target for Ronnie Moore the paperwork required to complete the loan was not finalised due to the timescales of the loan deadline."
The youngster has made just one substitute's appearance for Derby and featured once during a loan spell at Grimsby Town last October.
