Posh boss seeks assurances

Jim Gannon admits he is yet to decide whether he will remain at Peterborough past the end of the season. The former Stockport and Motherwell boss joined the Championship strugglers in February, filling the void created by Mark Cooper's dismissal. He penned a deal which is only set to run until the end of the current campaign, with the Posh looking for a short-term fix. Gannon has been unable to prevent the club from slipping deeper into trouble at the foot of the second tier table, but he has fared admirably under difficult circumstances. He has not even met Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony in the flesh as yet and has seen top scorer George Boyd loaned out to Nottingham Forest.

Challenge

Gannon admits the situation facing him at London Road is an unenviable one, and has revealed that he will seek assurances from the board before committing himself to the club over the summer. "It is pencilled in for me to meet when the chairman comes over for a couple of games and the AGM," he said. "I think that is the right time to do it because I have had five or six weeks at the club to assess things. The honeymoon period is over and I am seeing the brutal reality of this club. "It is a massive job and a massive challenge and I need to have a long conversation with the chairman about his ambitions for the club. I need to know the remit for the remainder of this season and what he wants to achieve in the future. "Once I know all of that, I will be fully informed to make a decision, but it won't be an easy one. There has been a slow erosion of the squad and a club like ourselves can't afford for that to happen."
Developing
Meanwhile, young winger Nathan Koranteng has signed an 18-month professional contract to keep him at London Road. The teenager was handed a senior debut against Swansea recently and has seen his progress rewarded with a new deal. Head of youth Dave Robertson said: "He now understands that this is a new beginning for him. "He needs to continue to develop and continue to learn from the experiences he has enjoyed. "His next target is to push for a regular spot in the first-team."
