Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson is weighing up a raid on former club Peterborough United for Paul Coutts.
Ferguson is keen to strengthen his squad after taking over at Deepdale and has already brought in Danny Welbeck on loan from Manchester United.
He has also made an enquiry for Coutts, but the ex-Peterborough manager says he has not yet made a firm offer for the midfielder.
"There are two or three we have spoken to and Paul is one we have enquired about," said Ferguson.
"We have not made an offer, we have just enquired, so we will see what happens - it could be a busy week."
Coutts joined Peterborough from Cove Rangers in the summer of 2008 and he has made 16 appearances in the Championship this season.
