Skysports.com understands new Preston boss Darren Ferguson is set to make an approach for Peterborough striker Aaron McLean.
Former Posh manager Ferguson took over the reigns at Deepdale on Wednesday in his first role since leaving London Road in November.
Now Ferguson, who led Peterborough to back-to-back promotions in the Football League, is aiming to raid his old club for McLean's services.
McLean handed in a transfer request last month after being dropped for what he described was the biggest game of his life against Newcastle.
Posh reluctantly accepted his request, and a bid of around £2million is thought to be enough to entice him to Preston.
McLean, 26, is a former non-league player and has scored seven goals in 28 appearances with Peterborough struggling at the foot of the Championship.
