Colchester United striker Kayode Odejayi has revealed he did not want to leave Barnsley and would have been happy to fight for his place at Oakwell.

Odejayi has just completed a permanent move to Colchester after scoring seven goals in 17 appearances during a loan spell at the League One club.

He had mustered just five goals in 82 games during his time at Barnsley, but the 27-year-old says he would have been prepared to stay at the Championship side.

"I didn't want to leave Barnsley," Odejayi told the Sheffield Star.

"Ideally, I would have loved to have stayed at the club and fought for my place, but a new manager (Mark Robins) came in and I wasn't part of his plans.

"Unfortunately I didn't score enough goals, but the move to Colchester has done me the world of good.

"I couldn't really have asked for a better start. I've managed to score quite a few goals and the team is doing really well."
