Defender's loan at Brentford cut short

Ipswich Town defender Pim Balkestein has been recalled from his loan spell at League One side Brentford. Balkestein has been on loan at Griffin Park since November after failing to make a first-team appearance for Ipswich in the previous two months. His loan was extended last week until 17th January, but the Dutchman has been summoned back to Portman Road. The 22-year-old featured eight times for Brentford, but is now likely to go into the Ipswich squad for the FA Cup tie with Blackpool on Saturday. Town boss Roy Keane has injury concerns over David Wright and Damien Delaney for the third-round trip to Bloomfield Road, so Balkestein could go straight into the starting line-up.
