Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi says Calvin Zola is not for sale after receiving an enquiry from Peterborough United for the striker.
Peterborough director of football Barry Fry revealed over the weekend that he had spoken to Gradi regarding Zola and was quoted a price of £1million.
Gradi concedes every player has his price, but the Crewe chief is not looking to cash in on the club's leading scorer when the transfer window reopens.
"I am saying that none of our players are for sale," Gradi told the club's official website.
"We don't want to sell because I am trying to build a winning team here.
"We want to be challenging for promotion and we won't be able to do that if we sell our best players.
"As usual though if the right offer came in and suited everyone then we wouldn't stand in anyone's way.
"I did speak to Barry. I have known him for many years and he is a good character. If he wants to pay me £1million for Zola then so be it, but what I'm trying to say is he isn't for sale.
"I think everyone is looking for the type of player Zola is. Calvin is having his best year in terms of goals and he is running towards the opposition goal more than our own, so if you are looking for that type then he is a decent bet."
