Swansea City striker Lee Trundle has urged fans not to get too excited about talk of promotion just yet.
The Swans' 11-game unbeaten run came to an emphatic end at league leaders Newcastle, while Trundle's late double helped to secure a draw at Peterborough on Saturday.
However, the on-loan frontman, who has returned to Swansea for a second spell after falling out of favour at Bristol City, believes that talk of promotion at this stage of the season is premature.
"The way this league is it would be stupid to talk about promotion now because it is so tight that a few defeats can send you spiralling down towards the bottom of the table again," Trundle told
skysports.com.
"I think it is important to take each game as it comes and all of the lads are focused on that at the moment.
"No-one is getting carried away now that we are high up in the table, but at the same time no one was feeling too down about being nearer the bottom, so it is just a case of continuing to do what we've been doing."
The Welsh club's impressive form of late stands in stark contrast to that during their disappointing start to the season, which saw them win just one of their opening eight league games, and Trundle believes the club took a lot longer than they would have liked to get over Roberto Martinez's exit to Wigan Athletic in the summer.
"I think that basically the upheaval of everything during the summer, with Martinez not only departing, but taking both Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez with him was a lot to take in," he added.
"They scored something like 50 goals for us last season, so I think any side would struggle without them, but the dust has settled now and we are showing how good we really are."
