Striker to sign loan deal after impressing on trial

Reading are closing in on the signing of Icelandic international Gunnar Thorvaldsson. Thorvaldsson, who currently plies his trade with Danish Superliga side Esbjerg, is believed to have impressed during a trial at the Madejski Stadium. Reading have now lined up a loan deal for the 27-year-old and the player's agent claims only personal terms need to be agreed for the move to be completed. Thorvaldsson's agent, Olafur Gardarsson, revealed the striker is expected to join Reading on loan until the end of the season. "We have just begun negotiations on Gunnar's personal conditions," Gardarsson told bold.dk. "Conditions of a loan agreement between the clubs is largely in place. "They are probably talking about a loan deal until the end of the season."

Contract snub

Meanwhile, Reading captain Ivar Ingimarsson remains confident of extending his stay at the Madejski Stadium, despite rejecting a new contract offer. The 32-year-old has recovered from a serious knee injury to regain his place in the back four and is hopeful of staying with the club beyond next summer. "At the moment it's just talk, nothing really has come out of it," Ingimarsson told the Reading Evening Post. "They have made me an offer and I've put it back to them and at the moment it is in their hands and we'll see what happens. "I'm waiting to see what comes out of it, I'm very happy here and if the club wants me then it shouldn't be difficult. "It takes two to sort it out, though, and at the moment we're just talking."
