Simon Gillett is happy Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll never lost interest in signing him as he considers a long-term stay at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The midfielder joined Doncaster on a two-month loan deal from Southampton earlier this month and he has made three Championship appearances to date.
O'Driscoll had made numerous attempts to sign the 23-year-old in the past before finally persuading Saints to let Gillett leave St Mary's.
Gillett had struggled for first-team football at Southampton this season and is now eager to repay O'Driscoll for his perseverance.
"It is always nice to know that you are wanted by the manager and I am really thankful to the manager for persevering," Gillett told the Sheffield Star.
"I just want to come up here and play as well as I can for both him and the team and just see how it goes.
"I'd certainly be very happy to stay beyond December, which is when my loan period runs out."
