Jody Morris has admitted he is desperate to help newly-promoted St Johnstone retain their SPL status.
The Saints won the First Division last time around, but have yet to win a league game six matches into the new campaign.
St Johnstone find themselves bottom of the table, although they are the fourth-highest scorers to date with nine goals.
Derek McInnes' side knocked Hibs out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup last week, but followed up the win with a 3-2 defeat to Dundee United.
While Morris believes the Perth outfit are well capable of going on a cup run, he is desperate for the team to team to start winning in the SPL.
"I fancy we could go on a cup run," he told
skysports.com. "While we're in the cup we feel that's something we can definitely progress in. We can beat any team on our day.
SPL stay
"We'd like to start winning some league games because we want to stay in the SPL. That's more important than anything.
"I would like to stay in the league because I've enjoyed playing in the SPL more than my first year."
The one-time Chelsea midfielder has found himself among the goals this season, although he admits his first port of call should be at the back.
The 30-year-old has scored three times this season, including strikes against Celtic, St Mirren and Hibernian.
"How we've been playing this year, I've been playing as a holding midfielder in front of the back four," he continued.
"So I'm not expected to score as much as I have done. It's obviously always nice to pop up and score some goals.
"It's definitely something I can do better with, but it's harder when you've been given a holding midfield role.
"I'm happy with scoring a couple more goals this year."

Manager McInnes recently stated Morris can play for many years to come, a statement the midfielder concurs with.
The former Rotherham and Millwall man is out of contract next summer, but is enjoying his training and keen to play at the highest level for as long as possible.
"I'm still only young. I'm only 30 and I feel that I can play for a lot younger. I feel fit and enjoy training so I don't see why not.
"I'd like to think I can play at a good and high level. That's something I want to do. I want to play at the highest level for as a long as possible.
"We'll see where that takes me."
