Forest defender making steady progress in return from injury

Nottingham Forest full-back Julian Bennett is hoping to step up his rehabilitation from injury next month. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since sustaining knee ligament damage on Boxing Day 2008. He is yet to feature under Reds boss Billy Davies, with the Scot having replaced the axed Colin Calderwood on New Year's Day. Bennett is, however, closing in on a first-team return and expects to resume full training next month. "I am just back jogging but I still need to get some strength back in my knee," he told the Nottingham Evening Post. "I am working on that, then after the next international break in October hopefully I can step things up again. "I have stepped things up ever so slightly in the last few weeks and there has not been a reaction, so I just have to keep things steady. I have to focus my mind a little bit to make sure I do not push things too much. "But hopefully next month I can get back with the rest of the lads - that is my target."
