Striker dislocated elbow and faces spell on sidelines

Crystal Palace striker Stern John has not broken his elbow, but he still faces several weeks out injured. John, who switched from Southampton on a free transfer in the summer, suffered the injury after falling awkwardly on his debut against Plymouth on Saturday. He needed treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off and, although the elbow was not broken as first feared, it was dislocated. Scans have now revealed damage to both ligaments and muscles and the striker faces 'weeks not months' out. Palace boss Neil Warnock told the Croydon Advertiser: "We've had up and down with him. "First of all it wasn't as bad as we'd thought, because there's no break in the bone. "He had a further scan and he's damaged ligaments and muscles. He'll be out, but it's weeks and not months."
