Midfielder stretchered off in pre-season friendly

Giles Barnes has given Derby another injury worry ahead of the start of the season after being stretchered off during the 2-2 draw with Stoke. The midfielder suffered an Achilles problem just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute and was unable to continue in the friendly at Pride Park. Rams manager Nigel Clough admits his fitness is a concern with the opening weekend of the new Championship campaign rapidly approaching. Asked about Barnes, Clough told Sky Sports News: "We are not sure yet. "He's got a problem with his Achilles and he will get assessed in the next 24 hours or so but it doesn't look too good at the moment." Defenders Dean Leacock and Shaun Barker, midfielder Lee Croft and strikers Chris Porter and Rob Hulse all missed the match through injury and Clough admits he will have to make a couple of signings to bolster his squad. "We are hoping to get a loan or two in and that should help us with a few more options," he said.
