Claude Davis is on the brink of completing his move to Crystal Palace after agreeing personal terms with the club.
The Jamaican international, who still had two years remaining on his contract with Derby County, was given permission to talk to the club after Eagles boss Neil Warnock expressed an interest.
Davis, who is waiting on a work permit, is expected to be unveiled as a Palace player within the next three or four weeks.
Warnock admitted a long-term desire to bring Davis to the club, having been an admirer of his style of football for some time.
He told the Croydon Advertiser: "We've agreed a deal for Davis to come here.
"What I like about Claude is that he knows how to look after himself - he is physically very strong."
