McGhee keen to agree deals for Paterson and MacLean

Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee has been encouraged in his pursuit of Plymouth Argyle duo Jim Paterson and Steven MacLean. McGhee is hoping to sign former Motherwell full-back Paterson on loan and is also keen to bring striker MacLean to Pittodrie. Benin international Reda Johnson is also on McGhee's wanted list, with the Dons close to adding to their squad. "We are in talks for Johnson and I'm hoping it can be done quickly," said McGhee in the Daily Record. "We have been told by his agent that no problems are expected. "If all goes well we hope to have Reda back with us tomorrow. "We are also encouraged by the response we've had about Paterson and MacLean. "I'm also working on others who haven't been mentioned so far, so we have a few options. I will be disappointed if we don't make progress this week." Plymouth chief Paul Sturrock admits he is waiting for Aberdeen to follow up their initial interest in signing Paterson and MacLean. "Mark McGhee has had a chat with me about their availability - that's as far as it went," said Sturrock. "We've had one conversation and that was about three weeks ago."
