Scunthorpe United are in talks with Michael O'Connor after Crewe Alexandra accepted a bid for the midfielder.
O'Connor has been expected to leave Crewe after falling foul of manager Gudjon Thordarson's regime at Gresty Road.
He spent a month on loan at Lincoln City towards the end of last season and has not featured for Crewe since February.
The Northern Ireland international was wanted on a permanent basis by Lincoln and had also been linked with a move to Hibernian.
However, O'Connor is now set to secure a switch to the Championship after Scunthorpe agreed an undisclosed fee with Crewe.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks of the Railwaymen and has scored six goals in 89 appearances for the League Two club.
