Scunthorpe United midfielder Kevan Hurst has pledged his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract.

Hurst, along with team-mates Joe Murphy and Ian Morris, was out of contract at Glanford Park, but has opted to stay with the Championship new boys.

The former Sheffield United youngster insists he did not consider leaving the Iron and aims to help the club remain in the second tier this season.

"It wasn't really a difficult decision to re-sign," Hurst told the club's official website.

"Last season I didn't play much football through injury and Martyn (Woolford) did very well in the side in my absence, which meant my opportunities were quite slim.

"I think this is a great club to be at right now though. We've got a good squad and have playing in the Championship to look forward to.

"I just feel at home at this club, so I just though 'yeah, this is the right thing to do'. I've been here two years and have enjoyed some good times, I hope I can enjoy more of them.

"I'm really looking forward to this season. There are some massive teams in the Championship and this season is massive for the club. It''s a massive task for us all, but I'm sure we'll raise the bar and stay in the Championship."
