Peterborough have lodged a 'substantially improved' offer for Grimsby captain Ryan Bennett.
The 19-year-old still has two years left to run on his current contract with the Mariners, but has expressed a desire to move up the League ladder.
A switch to Posh, who are preparing for life in the Championship, would match his ambition and the youngster is keen to talk terms.
Grimsby, though, will have the final say in any potential deal and club chairman John Fenty admits he is yet to weigh up the merits of the latest offer to reach his table.
He told the club's official website: "Although we have a substantially improved offer from Peterborough, we are not in a position to respond until I return from the Football League meeting in Portugal and when we have evaluated further interest being shown by other clubs.
"I must reaffirm that the club has no desire to sell Ryan - although it is pleasing that other clubs are showing an interest in our players."
